Plumsteadville Grange

Plumsteadville Grange meets the second Wednesday of each month at our hall located on Rte. 611 just North of Stump Road.   We welcome our friends and neighbors to our meetings to share ideas and join in fellowship.

  • 11 a.m. – Costume Contest – Kids, Adults, Dogs (leashed, please)
  • Noon – 2014 Quilt Raffle – get your tickets now!
  • Face Painting, Pumpkin Painting, Apple Bobbing, Surprises! – throughout the morning.

MAKE YOUR OWN SAUERKRAUT

WHO – ANYONE WHO WANTS TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE SAUERKRAUT

WHAT TO BRING

1. CLEAN FIVE-GALLON CROCK OR 5-GALLON PLASTIC BUCKET

2. ONE OR TWO LARGE HEADS OF CABBAGE

3. ONE POUND OF SEA SALT

4. ONE SHARP BUTCHER KNIFE.

NOTE #1: WHAT IS SAUERKRAUT? A GERMAN FOOD MADE OF SHREDDED CABBAGE, SALTED, POUNDED AND ALLOWED TO FERMENT IN ITS OWN JUICE UNTIL SOUR.

NOTE #2: IT’S TRADITION IN MANY HOMES TO EAT PORK AND SAUERKRAUT ON NEW YEARS DAY TO HAVE GOOD LUCK DURING THE NEW YEAR.

NOTE #3 CABBAGE CAN BE PURCHASED AT THE PLUMSTEADVILLE GRANGE   FARM MARKET

NOTE #4 MANAGER OF PLUMSTEADVILE GIANT FOODS HAS OFFERED TO PROVIDE CABBAGE FOR THE NEEDY.
