The Silverton Grange in Silverton, Oregon, is a dynamic, local organization supporting:

  • Education
  • Providing a local gathering place
  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Participatory democracy

Founded in 1867, the National Grange’s roots are in agriculture and community service. The Silverton Grange has been active in the community since 1930.

We support promoting local sustainable foods, developing resilient community, assisting agricultural enterprises, aiding those in need, and preserving the Silverton Grange hall as a resource for the community. The Silverton Grange is bringing these ideals into the 21st century by being relevant to today’s families and today’s issues.

Education

We support education to better all people—children and adults and to ensure a strong community. We host educational events such as film discussions, canning classes, Non Violent communication classes, sauerkraut workshops and more!

Providing a Local Gathering Place

The Grange hall is available and used for many kinds of events, including classes, receptions, and meetings. Our events that bring people together like MLK Observance, Seedy Saturday, pie contest, markets, voter education, and more are part of our mission to serve. We invite you to bring your energy and ideas to bring even more value to community.

Sustainable Agriculture

The Silverton Grange is committed to supporting local, sustainable food production. Local, sustainable agriculture is critical to reducing our dependence on foreign oil—the more local our food is, the less we rely on petroleum to ship our food. Local food also supports our local economy, helping ensure that family farms stay part of our community.

Our garden will be open in 2025 as a Garden Collective. Members will grow food together, learn about diverse garden topics focusing on climate change and dry gardening/farming, harvest and preserve food in our ample kitchen. We hope to have food to share with our neighbors at Sheltering Silverton and Silverton Area Community Aid.

Participatory Democracy

The Grange provides a unique way to get involved in state and national politics. Many Grange Members are active in politics with issues that are important to them. Even though we may not agree on the same issues, members are encouraged and supported to be engaged in politics. Local granges can approve a resolution that can be taken forward to the state grange conference. If it is approved at the state level, the grange will have its lobbyist support the issue.
