Due to COVID 19, we were unable to complete our 2020 Quilts of Valor block challenge or award our quilts. All blocks collected will be finished and awarded in November provided that it is deemed safe to gather for our members and the veterans.

April 2020
Star of Hope Block is a special section this month, as it represents how we are feeling right now since everyone is sheltering in place due to COVID-19.  This design brought to you by Quilt Social, but instructions are an adaption of Missouri Quilt Company’s April Star. March 2020
Another classic block and very popular with Amish quilters, the Ohio Star. It has been in use since the early 1800s and gained popularity in the 1930s. Like many other blocks, there are multiple methods to build this block. We are using Generations Quilt Patterns.

The Churn Dash is a very old 9-Patch quilt block pattern, originating between 1800 and 1849. There are many different ways to make this traditional block, please feel free to use any method that works best for you. We are using a pattern provided by Threadology. Please remember to use light color as the back ground and color as the Churn Dash.

Let’s being the new year celebrating our friends! The Friendship Star is a quick stitch. Instructions are adapted from Delaware Quilts. This block is so easy, consider making one in red and blue.

December 2019
The Rising Star Block is a beautiful two color block offered by Hand Made Karma in their Blue and White Sampler perfect for the Christmas season. Unfortunately the instructions included were for a 6 inch block. I’ve found a similar block that includes the 12″ instructions called the Double Saw Tooth Block offered by McCalls. You will simply need to substitute the center fabric for the cream background. Download December Quilt Block Instructions.
