2017 Lookingglass Cleanup Day and Parade

It’s time to help clean up our community and enjoy some activities with your neighbors.  Please do your part today to help clean up around your home and our local roads in the morning.  At noon, bring your family to enjoy our annual parade.  After the parade, there will be a barbecue, ice cream, cake, and popcorn.  You many even win a cake in a raffle!  There will be entertainment later in the day.

The Grange Hall will have some tables set up with information about the Lookingglass Grange.  You will be able to see photos of the history of our Grange.  There will be brochures for you to consider becoming a Grange member.

Help us celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the National Grange this year!

Message from the Grange President: Regarding the Elementary School

The fire at the Lookingglass school was a major loss for the community. We are very fortunate that there were no injuries as a result of this tragedy. This incident has shown how well the Lookingglass community comes together to help in a time of need. From the firefighters to the many businesses and countless volunteers who have offered their services to help keep the students in our community.

Lookingglass Grange 927 has always been a community oriented organization for over 65 years. In line with helping keep the students from being sent elsewhere, the Grange has offered the full use of it’s facility for the school to serve all meals and other activities as needed for as long as necessary. The normal activities of the Grange ie; farmers market, bingo night etc. will continue without interruption, as well as the facility still being available for rent by anyone as needed, outside of school use.

Working together we will recover from the community’s loss and move toward the future.
Thank you,
David Gilding

Lookingglass Elementary School

Lookinglass Elementary needs the Community. The Grange is there to help.

What we know so far is that the historic gym, library, cafeteria, and speech room built in 1939 burnt to the ground Late at night on December 27th, 2016. The cause remains unknown. The school was insured, but it is unknown at this time how that coverage will pay or effect new construction.

The classrooms remain intact with power, water, and electricity running properly.

The school is open for classes!

The grange is working with the school district to help meet its needs and the elementary kids will be served breakfast and lunch at the Grange.

PLEASE TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO SLOW WAY DOWN! CHILDREN WILL BE CROSSING LOOKINGGLASS RD. MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY AT A NEW CROSSWALK.

Parent volunteers have begun to sign up as crossing guards and meal room assistants. Community volunteers would be welcome also.

Support Lookingglass Elementary T-Shirts are being sold at the school. Please stop by and pick up a few.

Donations can be made directly to the school and are tax deductible. Stop by and write them a check.

A gofundme site has been set up if you prefer an online donation. Here is the link https://www.gofundme.com/lookingglass-school-taps

The band will continue at Lookingglass Elementary and will be practicing in the 6th grade classroom. The piano and drum set were lost to the fire. A replacement piano has already been donated. It is unclear what instruments were taken home by the students and which ones were lost to the fire. The band is symphonic and if you or friends would like to donate instruments please let the school know.

The library books were lost to the fire. If you have books that are clean (mold free), tobacco free, and appropriate to elementary children and would like to donate, them they would be welcomed. A small library is being set up at the Grange. The donation of a moderate sized book shelf would be appreciated.
