Memorial Day Car Cruise

The Hookstown Grange #1980 recently held their annual Memorial Day Car Cruise. This is a free event in conjunction with the community Memorial Day Parade which runs from “downtown” Hookstown, past the Grange & fairgrounds, to the American Legion where a memorial service is held. There were over 200 cars this year. There were door prizes and a 50/50 drawing for those in attendance. The fair board also had lunch available for purchase in the Grange dining hall.

Hookstown Fair – August 24 – 28, 2021 “Making Memories One Fair at at TIme”

The Hookstown Fair is held at the Hookstown Fairgrounds at 1198 State Route 168, Hookstown, PA 15050. The fair is held August 24 thru 28 this year. The cost is $10.00 at the gate, which includes entry to the fair, all the exhibits (including livestock judging & horse shows), all track events, kiddyland shows, and rides (excluding a few special attractions with a separate fee). Presale discount tickets ($8) and no-frill weekly passes ($20/no rides) may be purchased by mail via the fair website or at many local businesses. For more information, including entering exhibits in the fair, visit our website: www.hookstownfair.com. Come and enjoy the fair!

Election Day Soup, Sandwich and Pie Sale

On both primary and general election days, the Grange holds a soup, sandwich and pie sale. Usually, choices are: vegetable, potato or bean soup; sloppy joes or ham barbeque sandwiches; and chocolate, lemon or coconut pie.  Presale orders may be made during the two weeks prior to elections by calling Mary Lee McElhaney at 724-573-9207 and picked up in the Grange dining hall from 11-7. Items may also be purchased on Election Day, however, preordering ensures you get the type of soup or flavor pie you would like.

Community Christmas

In partnership with the South Side Historical Village, which is located on our fairgrounds, and several area churches, Community Christmas is held on a Saturday evening in early December.  There is a Live Nativity in the upper level of the Glenn Barn, a telling of the Christmas Story in the log cabin, Santa sharing tales of holiday traditions in the Artisan Shop, the making of a take-home ornament in the Blacksmith Shop, and a warming area/sweet treat time in the Grange dining hall.  Normally, South Side Garage donates a minibus to shuttle participants from the parking area to the village and Grange hall, but this year it was a drive through event due to coronavirus restrictions. An added element this year was a non-perishable food drive which benefited the Mill Creek EP Church food pantry.
