Junior Grange

Junior Grange is a program for children ages 5 to 14 patterned after our parent organization.  Our motto is “Improvement” through community involvement and personal growth.  These values are expressed through fun and educational activities with extra emphasis on grassroots advocacy for all ages, agricultural awareness, Deaf and Hard of Hearing awareness, and community service.

The East Pembroke Junior Grange #324 meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm in the East Pembroke Grange Hall on School Street.  Our activities vary and are tailored to our members interests and community needs.

In addition to our local activities, there are numerous opportunities for our Junior Grangers at the New York State and National levels.

History of the East Pembroke Grange

The East Pembroke Grange was established in January 1909 with 44 charter members. On January 22, 1909 the first meeting was held in the I.O.O.F. Hall in East Pembroke, New York. The Grange held their meetings in the I.O.O.F. Hall until 1940 when they bought the old high school grounds and recreation hall on School Street, where we continue to meet today. The East Pembroke Juvenile Grange No. 324 (now referred to as Junior Grange) was organized in 1934. In 1948 the Juvenile room was built.

The Grange was organized to give farmers and rural residents a place to meet to discuss matters of concern. The Grange continues to be a grassroots organization as trusted conveyors of issues to legislators. Many changes have been made since 1909, but our strong work ethic and dedication to improving life for rural Americans through community based programs, have remained the same.

The East Pembroke Hall has been an integral part of the community. It has been used as a polling place, senior meal site, food pantry, dances, auctions, receptions, dinners and host of the Down Syndrome Parent Support Group Christmas Party.

The East Pembroke Grange continues to be an active supporter of the Genesee County Fair. In addition to displaying an educational exhibit, we have operated a food stand for over 50 years. The East Pembroke Grange is a social organization that strives to meet the needs of our community. All are welcome.
