Thirty people attended the USDA workshop
on Dec. 8, not counting the seven presenters. So,
it was a pretty good turnout (see photo below).
Different parts of the Farm Service Agency help
farmers with disaster/emergency conservation,
crop insurance and farm ownership loans while
Natural Resources Conservation Service deals
with irrigation and mulching as well as technical
and financial assistance. The Farm Extension has
advisors specializing in tree crops, table and wine
grapes, tropical plants, small farms, 4-H and pest
management, etc. There is a lot of help available
for small farms, and for new farmers.
We have a lot to talk about at our meeting –
we joined the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce
last month and need to design business cards and
name tags. If anyone is interested in representing
the Grange at chamber functions, let me know.
We also need to hold a workday to complete
the finishing touches on our hall before we can
have a ribbon cutting with the chamber. This
includes painting doors and doorjambs and
general clean up as well as sorting accumulated
stuff.
Also think about any projects you would like
to do this year and bring your ideas with you!
