W. Sumner & Howard L. Jordan Scholarship
ELEGIBILITY FOR A MEMBER OF HOLDEN GRANGE:
- Any graduating high school senior or student in attendance at a recognized institution of learning beyond high school may be considered as a candidate for the scholarship if no prior scholarship has been received from this fund.
- Applicant must have applied or been accepted at a recognized institution of learning beyond high school.
- A Holden Grange member in good standing for at least one year preceding the date of application is eligible to pursue any course of study.
- Applicant must describe three Grange activities in which he/she is involved and future educational goals as part of a letter of intent, accompanied by an official transcript and a letter of recommendation.
ELEGIBILITY FOR A NON-HOLDEN GRANGE MEMBER:
- Any graduating high school senior or student in attendance at a recognized institution of learning beyond high school may be considered as a candidate for the scholarship if no prior scholarship has been received from this fund.
- Applicant must reside in Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, or Sterling.
- Applicant must have applied or been accepted at a recognized institution of learning beyond high school.
- An applicant who does not belong to the Grange must be pursuing a course of study in:
- agriculture/horticulture
- veterinary science
- conservation/environment
- Applicant must describe three community activities in which he/she is involved and future educational goals as part of a letter of intent, accompanied by an official transcript and a letter of recommendation.
PROCESS TIMELINE
- Applications for scholarships in the form of a letter of intent written to the Grange with details described in the appropriate section above, accompanied by an official transcript and a letter of recommendation are due by May 1st.
- A scholarship, determined by the Scholarship Committee, will be awarded at a Grange meeting in June.
- Scholarship to be paid to the applicant upon successful completion of the first semester with at least a 3.0 grade point average.
