Edneyville Grange and Community Development Club
July 10, 2018
The meeting was held at the Edneyville Community Center with Wendy Henderson presiding. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Wendy and followed by the invocation by Don Henderson. A delicious covered dish dinner was enjoyed by all. Birthdays were celebrated. George Minor has a birthday on July 31. Send him a card. Volunteer hour sheets were distributed.
Minutes of the June meeting were approved as sent out to members.
The program about Stephen’s Ministry was presented by Don Klug from Grace Lutheran Church. This service is provided by 4 churches in Henderson County to help with grief and hardship. The churches are Grace Lutheran, Hendersonville Presbyterian, Mills River United Methodist, and Etowah United Methodist. They accept referrals from any source. It is an international organization in 23 countries across 170 Christian denominations. Ministers are provided with 50 hours of training and leaders receive an additional 40 hours. Care receivers are helped in very confidential meetings for 1 hour per week for a couple of months to years. Service is based on the principle that God is the care curer and the minister is the care giver to provide support. John Lampley is a care minister. A new class is planned for the fall; a two year commitment to service is required.
For the summer lunch program, the Grange is committed to 15 backpacks to give out the last day of the program. The plan is for Wendy to order the backpacks and during the second week of August, go shopping for items to put in the backpacks. Don moved that we do this. Approved. Don, Mary, Doug and Barbara Lackey will help.
Farm City Day is the first Saturday in October. After discussion, it was decided that we not participate this year.
The state convention is in Charlotte from September 13-16. Delegates selected are Wendy and Liz. Prepare crafts and cooking for the contests. Information is on line.
Rebecca asked about the Edneyville Community Watch and will pursue this for a program.
The next meeting is on August 7 or 14 depending on the choice of Crab Creek.
Mary was thanked for the beautiful patriotic decorations.
Sundaes on Saturday will be on August 25. Canoe Grass will provide the music.
The closing prayer was provided by Don Henderson.
Respectfully,
Liz Enloe
