Thanks from Peggy Laughter for the meal provided by the Grange. The NC Field and Family publication has an article about Turf Mountain Sod with a picture of the Pittillos.
Deb Demorest, pastor of Moores Grove and Balfour Methodist Churches presented the program about the Summer Food Program which provided free lunch for all ages 2-18. In addition to the site at Edneyville, there is a site at Patton Part and a bus (Meals on the Bus) which visits 4 sites. Meals for adults who eat are paid for by First Baptist and Balfour Methodist. Games to play and free books are available. Also a guessing game with a weekly prize is used to encourage attendance. Birthdays are celebrated. Plans are to provide school supplies at the end of the summer. The focus of the program is to build relationships. The last day for the program is August 11. She also talked about the backpack program and hopes to match schools and churches working through the school counselors.
Mary reported on nominees for Grange contests with Jean Dalton being our Person of the Year.
Farm City Day is on October 7.
Marsha Lyda reported that the Wind Ensemble from North Henderson will perform at the Educators Conference in Winston-Salem, being 1 of 2 in the state to do so. She also was asked to described the plan at North Henderson to provide food for Band Members before home games because members cannot leave the school. She will bring the game schedule to the next meeting and we will decide if we want to participate in the project.
The next ECCA meeting is on September 12 at 7 pm.
The next Grange meeting will be on August 1. The closing prayer was provided by Don Henderson.
Respectfully,
