2009 Convention

This state grange meeting was held at North Pole Grange #6, May 2, 2009. National Grange Master Ed Luttrell was a special guest, and spoke on building the grange’s presence in Alaska to the point that Alaska would have two votes at National. This will require 15 granges in the state. There are six at present, with several more areas thinking about forming granges. The convention delegates voted for “15 in ’15,” which stands for their commitment to work toward 15 subordinate granges by 2015. State Grange Master, Gaye Hunt, displayed the new charter to be presented to the newest Alaska grange, the Silkok Creek Grange #12, and asked grange members for help in reaching other areas.

The only elections held were for a three year term on the Executive Committee. It went to John Poirrier of the North Pole Grange.

Five of the subordinate granges filed reports on their activities either for 2008, or for the time period since the last state meeting, which was held May 3, 2008. The reports will be found with the subordinate grange that filed them.

The delegates approved three resolutions. All three will be posted on the site soon, and there will be links on the right to them.

The McKees invited all grange members to their Condo Sunday anytime between 1 and 4 p.m. to talk and become better acquainted with Ed Luttrell.

A letter to the editor about the meeting was published May 9, 2009.
